コース設計は言うまでもなく壮大な自然に融合するグランドデザイン。そのランドスケープが美しくあることが大前提です。美しい景観の中でこそ戦略性のレベルは評価に値するものであり、自然に逆らった不釣り合いな景観の中ではその論議は無に等しいものです。

私はランドスケープについて、まず水が様々な表情を持って流れる様を思い描きます。流れる水は決して澱まず、流速は傾斜によってテンポが変化してゆく。様々な目線の変化で現れる周囲の地形は豊かな稜線を織りなし、曲線の重なりや木立の陰影、時には突起する象徴的な手つかずの地形変化も含め背景に溶け込んでしまうことをイメージします。必ずボトムがありトップが存在するのです。そこからデザインされる線の流れと起伏のあり方が『自然に逆らわない』という言葉の原点と私なりに考えます。

　また、ゴルフはその舞台装置たる18ホールの流れにおいて、あらゆるプレーヤーに魅力的な攻略ルートを与え、ホールごとの地形的特性を生かしたデザイン構成によって見合った『戦略性』が備わってゆくことが最大のテーマです。そこに設計家の品格や知性が盛り込まれるものと考えます。

コース改造は一方でオリジナルの良い所をどう継承させるかが重要で『より良くする』というのが最大のテーマでしょう。

よって、デザインの押し売りではなく運営コンセプトも踏まえた上で、費用対効果を感じ取れるものでなければなりません。私は、コース改造を今までに大小様々な経験してきました。これからも立ち向かうであろう様々なゴルフコースで、理想と現実はなかなか一致を見ないことが多くあります。しかし、理想を現実出来る事を夢見て取り組んでおります。

Needless to say, the course design is a grand design that blends with the magnificent nature. The main premise is that the landscape be beautiful. The level of strategy is worthy of evaluation in a beautiful landscape, but in a landscape that is disproportionate and goes against nature, such debate is meaningless.

When I think of landscapes, I first visualize water flowing with various expressions. Flowing water never stagnates, and the tempo of the flow changes depending on the slope. The surrounding topography, which appears as you change your perspective, weaves rich ridgelines, blending into the background, including overlapping curves, shadows of trees, and sometimes symbolic untouched topographical changes that protrude. There is always a bottom and a top. In my opinion, the flow of lines and the way the lines are undulated from this is the origin of the phrase ``not going against nature.''

In addition, the 18-hole flow of golf, which is the stage setting, gives every player an attractive strategy route, and the most important thing is to be able to have a commensurate ``strategy'' through a design structure that takes advantage of the topographical characteristics of each hole. This is the theme. I believe that this incorporates the dignity and intelligence of the designer.

On the other hand, when it comes to course remodeling, it is important to inherit the good points of the original, and ``making it better'' is probably the biggest theme.

Therefore, we need to be able to get a feel for the cost-effectiveness based on the management concept, rather than trying to push the design. I have experience with various course modifications, large and small. On the various golf courses that we will continue to face, ideals and reality often do not match. However, I am working on my dream of making my ideals a reality.
